Video Games Sales Trends

My best friend, who's almost a TOTAL non-gamer, reads the New York Times website obsessively and she sent me the following article:

In the List of Top-Selling Games, Clear Evidence of a Sea Change

The following excerpt pretty much covers the gist of it, although the whole article is worth a read, I think:

"Put another way, it may be a sign of the industrys nascent maturity that as video games become more popular than ever, hard-core gamers and the old-school critics who represent them are becoming an ever smaller part of the audience."

I wrote a blog post once about this very thing. I didn't use NPD data or anything, but the basic idea is the same. As a "hardcore gamer," I know for a fact that my opinions and gaming desires don't really mean anything anymore. This makes me sad.

Bottom line is always money. That's why there are so many shitty games that look the same.

To the general public: Stop Buying Shitty Games!!! For the Love of God and all that is Holy!!!

I would ostracize anyone caught with a purchase reciept for DoA Xtreme.

lol Yup, $$. When I worked at Lamespot (oops, did I say that out loud?), they had just gone public and that's when I started noticing a change in how games were marketed and such. It's kind of interesting to see how the industry has changed so dramatically in such a short period of time.

A few of my friends bought DoA Xtreme, actually. Mostly because they wanted to see near-naked Kasumi. I gave them a lot of shit for it...hehe.
