Default I'm Now An SDET For Microsoft

What's an SDET you may ask? It's a Software Developer in Test. I will write code to test code starting one week from Monday.

I'm sure I'll have to sign an NDA but I can spill what they told me in the interview.

Apparently this group within MS finds bugs for major releases on the 360, their last project being Lost Odyssey.

So I get to stare at the source code for some major 360 release all day for a year!

Then maybe they'll sign me up for actual development, pretty exciting anyways.

For reference here are the Microsoft internal XBOX 360 development buildings:
microsoft millenium campus - Google Maps

I will be in the second to last. The one to the left is the XNA C# devs, left of that are some 360 major release devs, and to the right is XBOX Live development.

I went on one interview for XBL and the interviewer let slide that they're working on some major upgrade for XBL that no other service has ever implemented and that it's coming this fall.

Yeah Banjo Kazooie and Viva Pinata 2 source code. It's built on the Ghoulie Engine.

Some of the header files date back to 2001 and have memory locations for the Gamecube.

The original project is called dolphin ;o

Apparently I'm working on a top secret project next and then Gears of War 2. Pretty exciting.

Got my badge today and finally my own computer and office.

First day they put me in a server room with a one way mirror that looked onto a usability testing room that had rockband set up on 3 tv's with one 360 and 2 ps3's lol.

I'm a contractor so I'm not 100% MS but hopefully in the next year as a contractor I can get a permanent position.

Nearly everyone in the division where I am reminds me of people from Digipen just a bit older lol. All very awkward and nerdy and way too in to anime etc hehe. Is a nice environment, very nice people. Ridiculously smart people that blow my mind too.

Personally, I don't think there's such a thing as being "too into" anime and stuff, but that's probably because I'm too into anime and stuff...lol. Still, I'd kill to be surrounded by people who shared gaming and anime interests with me. And even better, to be around people who are fucking brilliant. I love super smart people. They're the only ones I can really get along with.

I work with quite a few idiots. Here's an example: I was talking to someone about movies. In particular, we were discussing movies that make you think a bit more than normal. You know, like A Clockwork Orange versus Casino Royale. Apparently, a friend of hers told her that she should watch The Passion of the Christ and Pan's Labyrinth, so she picked them up from Wal-Mart and tried to watch them, but they weren't in English. She got all upset and so she tried to return them. Of course, the staff at Wal-Mart said no. But she was yelling about how movies should say that they're not in English and they shouldn't sell movies that make you read, etc... It was very difficult for me to listen to her ranting and raving, so I swore up and down to NEVER EVER talk about anything intelligent with her ever again. And, incidentally, it's not just movies that she says incredibly stupid things about... I don't know how many times she's said things that make me wonder how she actually gets through every-day life.

I've been meaning to ask... Don't you ever worry that working in video games would make you love games less? I like to play games and write about them, but I wonder if I actually WORKED with them, I might learn to hate them...

4 years of Digipen.edu was pretty much working on games and I've made a few. Yes it does make you hate them for awhile but I guess it depends on how much you liked them to start with.

Oh and I'm not attacking anime lovers lol chillll :P

Btw your coworker is retarded. I think she needs to be demoted.
